The Man Whose Mother Was a Pirate

In 2024, I had the joy of composing and writing The Man Whose Mother Was a Pirate, a bold and playful adaptation of Margaret Mahy’s beloved children’s book. Brought to life with a vibrant mix of physical theatre, music, and imaginative storytelling, our production followed the journey of a seemingly ordinary man as he rediscovered his adventurous spirit, guided by his larger-than-life pirate mother.

At its heart, this show was about embracing the call to adventure, celebrating the magic of the unknown, and remembering that even the most sensible of us have a wild streak waiting to be set free. With a talented cast and a creative team dedicated to capturing the whimsy of Mahy’s world, we transformed the stage into a rollicking seascape filled with humor, heart, and just the right amount of pirate mischief.

Performing for audiences of all ages, we set sail on a theatrical journey that reminded us all - sometimes, the best thing you can do is leave the safety of the shore and chase the horizon.
